Frequently Asked Questions

General
  • How can I make sure I am getting started correctly?
Refer to the User Instructions and follow the Getting Started steps as outlined.
  • Is the sensor already calibrated?
The sensor is calibrated at RJC with instrumentation traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The calibration is written to an RFID tag located within the optical connector, and is read by the instrument when the connector is inserted into the instrument.
Fiber Optic Temperature
  • How do I know if the Temperature Sensor system is working correctly?
Place the temperature sensor in the TRM and wait until the temperature stabilizes. If the sensor reads the same as the internal TRM sensor, it is working correctly. If it reads a different temperature, redo the offset procedure outlined in the User Instructions.
Fiber Optic Pressure
  • Do I have to zero the sensor again?
If the instrument is properly warmed up for at least 15 minutes, and the sensor is then zeroed in ambient pressure, it will hold its zero over many days so long as it is not damaged or abused.
  • How do I know if the Pressure Sensor system is working correctly?
Follow User Instructions to apply known static pressures to the sensor. If these static pressures agree with what the system is reporting, then the system is working correctly.
  • How do I incorporate the Pressure Sensor Assembly into my medical device?
The distal tip of the pressure sensor assembly has a glass capillary attached to the optical fiber. (This glass capillary provides a convenient attachment point to the customer’s medical device.) The capillary-fiber part is polished flat, providing a pedestal for mounting the sensor chip. Two sensor chip points to remember: (1) the distal sensor chip diaphragm is very thin and may break if physically touched, and (2) all surfaces of the sensor chip must remain completely free of customer adhesives.
