Pressure Sensor Instrumentation

The RJC Model 500 assembly is used with all RJC pressure sensor assemblies. This instrumentation sends specific wavelength light out to the sensor, the sensor modifies this light based on current sensed pressure, then reflects it back to the instrumentation. The instrumentation converts returned light to photocurrents, applies the sensor’s unique calibration information, and outputs 1,000 calibrated pressure measurements per second.

Model 500 FOMA

Fiber Optic Measurement Assembly

Model 500 instrument
Released 2017

The Model 500 Fiber Optic Measurement Assembly (FOMA) is used where the customer already has an existing instrumentation package. In this case, the FOMA becomes a sub assembly in the customer’s medical device and requires customer-supplied power, controls, alarms, and sensor data outputs/displays. The Tethered Module contains a mating optical connector for the sensor, and an RFID antenna for reading sensor calibration information. The Tethered Module can be configured to meet customer needs.

  • Dimensions:
    • FOMA: 2.68 x 3.50 x 0.96 inches (excepting RS-232 level connector)
    • Tethered Module: 1.50 x 1.33 x 0.81 inches (without sensor assembly)
  • Operating temperature range: 15 to 38°C
  • Sensor calibration data: RFID
  • Output: Logic Level RS-232 (standard RS-232 level available)
  • Output frequency response: DC to 100 Hz @ 1000 samples/second (other bandwidths and sample rates available)
  • Power required: 12 VDC @ 185 mA at 23°C
    (2.4 amp startup)

Model 601 FOMI

Fiber Optic Measurement Instrument

Model 601 instrument
Available 2021

The Model 601 Fiber Optic Measurement Instrument (FOMI) contains a Model 500 FOMA and is used where the customer requires a stand alone instrument. The Model 601 contains a separate circuit board assembly that provides a power supply, graphic color display, alarm functions, and other related features. This FOMI has many applications, including product development support, laboratory studies, production support, and clinical measurements (the customer must first obtain regulatory approval).

  • Dimensions: 8”W x 6.75”H x 2”D without stand; 3.5”D with stand. Pole mount is available.
  • Operating temperature range: 15 to 35°C
  • Display: Graphic color LCD 5” diagonal, 800×480 pixels
  • Sensor calibration data: RFID
  • Outputs: Patient monitor interface-simulated strain gauge 5uV/V/mmHg, high level analog output (10mV/mmHg), USB, thumb drive data logging available
  • Output frequency response: DC to 100Hz @ 1,000 samples/second
